Happy New Year! No doubt 2018 is going to be the best year yet (both inside and outside of the gym) but if you’re starting out feeling kinda blah because you overindulged, don’t sweat it. It’s totally fixable. These are some of our all-time, favorite ways to get back on track.

Tip #1: Cut Yourself Some Slack

This one is a lot easier said than done, but please give it a whirl. Don’t get mad at yourself if you fell off the wagon. That’s in the past. Let’s focus on the future.

Tip #2: Don’t Prolong Things

Try to steer clear of thoughts like “I’m doing XYZ on such and such a date, so I’ll start over right after that.” Um, no. Concentrate on maintaining those healthy habits now, and if you have a splurge-worthy event, make it a one and done deal.

Tip #3: Clear The Kitchen Of All Junk Food

Don’t let temptation rear its ugly head at home. Get rid of anything that’s unhealthy (sugar-filled treats especially) and buy whole foods instead. It’s an awful lot harder to go back to old ways when junk food isn’t staring you in the face.

Tip #4: Get Your Significant Other To Join You

Everyone can benefit from a healthy diet, and this one is a double win. Being on the same page at home will make maintaining a healthy lifestyle easier for you. Not to mention your significant other will reap the rewards of eating better too.

Tip #5: Eliminate Grains and Dairy

Even if you aren’t following a Paleo lifestyle yet, cut out the grains and dairy temporarily. Both may cause inflammation which contributes to that not-so-great feeling you might be experiencing.

Tip #6: Drink Lots Of Water

If you’ve been eating processed foods lately, you’ve likely been ingesting crazy amounts of salt. That encourages water retention, which encourages you to feel - and even look - bloated. Flush your system out by chugging as much water as possible. An awesome goal is to drink half your body weight in ounces. So if you weigh 150 pounds, try to down 75 ounces of H2O a day.

Tip #7: Workout

Get your butt to the box, please! A great workout and healthy eating go hand-in-hand. Sticking to a healthy diet is a lot easier when it’s being complemented by exercise. (Plus we miss you!)

Tip #8: Hang Out With Like-Minded People

Hopefully you can make tip #4 happen but regardless, the more health-conscious people you can hang around, the more likely you are to keep up with good habits. Motivation is a pretty amazing thing. (By the way, you can find these like-minded folks at you guessed it--the box.)

Tip #9: Become A Meal Planning Master

When healthy meals are waiting for you in the fridge (or are at least prepped), sticking to good habits can be simple. That doesn’t mean you have to chain yourself to the stove all weekend either. It can be done in a few hours if you plan it right. Cooking in bulk is a great place to start. So instead of preparing enough chicken for tonight’s dinner, cook enough to last a few days.

Tip #10: Practice Patience

You didn’t gain weight overnight, so it’s not fair to expect it to come off in 24 hours either. Be patient with yourself. If you put in the work, the results will come. Promise.
