You know those workouts that you look at and think “that can’t be done by just one person!” Do you know how to crush a partner WOD when it is programmed at the box? Here are some things to keep in mind next time you have to partner up for a WOD:

Strategize. By understanding each other’s strengths and weaknesses, you can best strategize where one partner will be better suited to push or pull back. If one partner is a dominant rower and the other a bodyweight ninja, its best to play to those strengths.

Communicate. It’s crucial to talk to your teammate(s) when working as a pair or team. You can’t get caught up in your own world and block out your partner, especially if the WOD calls for synchronized or tandem movements.

Feed off one another. Use your partner’s energy to help keep you moving even when you are fatigued. It is easy to quit on yourself, but it is much harder to stop when you are working with another person or group of people.

Transition well. Partner and team WODs often come down to transition time between movements and teammates. If a WOD includes alternating wall balls or back-to-back sprint rows, seamless transitions between movements or athletes can shave seconds off each round.

Have fun! We don’t always get to work with others to complete a task. Use your opportunity to have some fun and get a good push for your fitness!
